Ironically it works out more expensive to get a used car with the insurance than it does with Just Add Fuel. Strange I know :rotfl:

Are you aware the insurance element of just add fuel only applies to over 21s?

If you look at the ad at the top, it says you can get a 108 from age 18 with a box to monitor your driving.

I'm sure you wouldn't be able to get one before having a licence though. The terms would have to be checked thoroughly before agreeing anything.

    Thanks marcarm, missed that bit!

So 4 warnings for poor driving (likely in first year of driving?) = insurance cancelled, but stuck paying off the car.

This does not sound so good to me.

I agree, and with a cancelled insurance policy it will be next to impossible to get insurance for a decent price in the future.

And what do they call poor driving? They could be very strict and say that you got too close to the car in front, that's a warning. Stayed in the middle lane a fraction too long? That's another warning.

Coupled with the fact that at that age people will get bored of the car easily, as well as seeing that amount of money going from their pay packet each month they will resent ever signing up for it.

Get a fiesta for £500, you won't mind denting it or scratching it which will happen while you are young.

I can see a thread in 6 months time asking how they can get out of the agreement.

Just checked and you do need a full licence, so best to start concentrating on that, by the time the test is passed you might have seen sense or not be so keen on that car anymore. Op does not say how much they earn, but a £300+ car payment each month will surely be a huge chunk of it. When you are not able to do the things your friends are doing due to having no money the car does not seem so appealing.

It also surprises me how people are so keen to sign up to finance and get themselves into debt as soon as they are able to. Especially when there are so many more sensible options.

why are you paying £50 pm for a mobile phone? and as others have said you should not be maxing out your CC every month, both of these show poor financial dicipline. You need to learn to live within your means.

My experience of car finance as a teenager - admittedly a long time ago was that they were all happy to lend to me, As long as one of my parents signed as guarantor.

op - you are writing and behaving as someone who wakes up on the Debt-Free Wannabe Boards.

'a £500 deposit. I can definitely do this'
    - so, learn about car maintenance and buy something for CASH, but only after you have paid off that Credit Card debt AND cancelled that silly phone contract. Go PAYG.

You are NOT in control of anything. £hings are controlling you.

'raring', not 'rearing', is a grammar/spelling correction, because correct is better than incorrect.
No licence - test means fees. Have you budgeted for them? are you counting on 1st-time pass?
No notion of financial discipline, or is it merely incomprehension?
No real life lessons learnt, but aiming to be dung-heaped under them.

op - you may not have had budgeting and common sense as part of your upbringing, but don't zap yourself with a technical KO before your own grown-up working life starts.

You have been paying loaded amounts during your student years. With an soa at the start of them, you would not be writing/asking as you are now. There is no need to continue this way.

If you can 'definitely do' a £500 deposit and £255 a month, then you should not have a maxed out credit card paying off £100 a week waiting for your 'big summer paycheque'

What I do with my credit card and my money is my business. I'm aware I've made mistakes which is why I'm paying it off in full and cancelling it next month...

I merely asked a question on here and now feel as if I am being attacked. I guess I shouldn't have asked :money:

You're not being attacked. You're being given excellent financial advice that your future self will perhaps appreciate more than you do now

On that note, don't cancel your card once you have cleared it. You need to build a solid credit history, so use it and clear in full each month.
