Mortgage Advice

Help or advice please.
I am 67 ànd my wife 65 we still have about £87000 left on our mortgage which we have never defaulted on it having been told there is no chance of equity release our property worth in excess of £180,000 which we understand would never be enough to clear the existing balance.
Our mortgage payment is almost £800 monthly which we would love to reduce to something akin to interest payments only allowing whoever to retain the charge on the property in line with how we are led to believe equity release works.
If anyone can point us in a direction we would be most grateful, please feel free to ask questions if it helps.
Thanks in advance.
