    I would echo checking out Mr Money Mustache. If you want a chance at retirement at all, you'd better get your act together!

    First I would save 6 months of expenses up, and tuck them away somewhere easily accessible but not so accessible you end up spending it.

    Then I would start investing at least 50% of your income. My preference would be Vanguard Index Funds. You could split between a pension (see if your employer matches it) and an investment ISA which you can pull out of.

    Wouldn't bother buying a second home now.

    ETA: I'm definitely all for spending money on decent things, but clothes and kitchens will come and go. I'd be thinking about what you want from life. Travel? Kids? Security? Financial planning is key.
  • At the very least you need to begin increasing your savings. Start by setting up a direct debit into an ISA or savings account.
