You and your wife are parents as well as teachers. As you've pointed out several times, you're responsible for educating your children.
I think it's important to teach children good budgeting and financial habits, which you can do only if you model these yourselves.
Otherwise won't they learn to waste food, buy things they don't need, waste money by being disorganised, get into debt and be likely to refuse to monitor their spending? These are all things you have said you and/or your wife do, and are therefore teaching them.0
