I'm having trouble working out my pay for the month (!)

Hey,folks.

So,I started my new job five weeks ago,and I get paid *monthly*. Payday is the *15th* of every month. I received a payslip last month for *£354.99*,despite having worked there only one week. I've now received my second payslip this morning for *£524.04*.

Something doesn't add up?

I'm on the national minimum wage, and I worked 18 hours per week.

When are actual pay periods? i.e. what period does the pay cover?

It says at the bottom 'period end date 31/08/2016'

So you started on 8th? when you got paid you got paid to the end of that month, roughly 3 weeks, this pay you have got paid for a full month, roughly 4 weeks

So the first one would be for when you started until 31st July which would be 3 weeks worth of pay which would be 18*£6.70*3= £361.80 and then second one would be for whole month which would be 4.34 weeks worth of pay 18*£6.70*4.34 £523.40 so sounds roughly right to me.

    A full month's pay would be £480,ish,wouldn't it? 18*4*6.70?

No because on average there are 4.34 weeks in a month. Rather than work out how many weeks are in each month a lot of companies use this figure to work out monthly pay. If they used 4 weeks you would be 4 weeks short every year!

Our cut off used to be the end of the month and it looks like that's what you've been paid for as its 3 and a bit weeks. Say the bit is a working day it's 54 X £7.20 = £388.8. Maybe the extras any overtime?
