This will not undermine your own doctor. This is a report to be sent to your employer by what is in effect, a medical employment specialist. He/she will report to your company on anything they can help you do to return to work, how long you are likely to be off in future with it, and whether you are likely to fall under the Disability Discrimination Act (which they will really need to know)

You will feel all special because the appointment is usually quite long and because the doc, has so long with you they can usually get a really good feel for how it is all going. I will be astonished if you find it anything other than a really positive experience.

Now, as for travelling. Of course you don't want to go to a strange place. You're feeling all tender from BR and from a bad shoulder. But now is NOT the time to give in to any feelings of wanting to cocoon yourself up in a safe place or you are likely to go down into an unpleasant place which would not be healthy. Force yourself past your fears and keep doing it until you regain your self confidence. The last thing you need is to be made a prisoner in your own home by your fears, and that can easily happen.

If you get overcome by the thought of going, just think through all the worst things that can happen on the trip and plan how you would cope with it. Hope that makes sense. Best of luck.
  • Hi BLTN

just wanted to let you know I have recently been seen by a
Consultant Occupational Health Specialist, and everything previous posters have told you is true.

Do go with an open mind, state it as it is, there is truly no reason to get so worried or nervous.

I was lucky I think, I came under the DDA and was told my decision there and then.
If you want to ask me anything else PM me if you wish.

All the best, and good luck at your appointment :)
Love generously, praise loudly, live fully :)
