Help!
despite using monthly flea spot on, my cats have been riddled with fleas this week - I have been combing 2/3/4 times a day and removing everything I find. I've also used a 'anti flea spray' on them, but it doesn't seem to have made any difference!
Any suggestions/remedies?
I have washed/cleaned/hovered all the areas of the house they frequent/sleep, several times. We don't seem to have any in the carpet etc.
One cat is slightly long haired, with fine hair, the other has very thick, shorter hair ( despite being siblings )
Thank you x

Might be worth switching to a different spot-on treatment if possible. I used to cat-sit a lovely moggy who was very scrawny until her owners switched flea treatment. It worked - she got a bit fatter and lovely and fluffy again, so I presume sometimes you can get very resistant fleas to some meds.***Mortgage Free Oct 2018 - Debt Free again (after detour) June 2022***

Advantage spot on is great, you can get it on amazon (cheaper than at the vets) frontline is useless these days as the fleas seem to be immune to it. Also get some indoorex spray tp treat your carpets and furnishings.0

I once had this problem. It's no good getting stuff from pet shops, you need something of industrial strength. I got mine, at great expense, from the vet. Can't remember the name of it offhand but someone on here will be sure to know it.

Go to the vet and buy a tin of indorex
Your cats fleas are now nesting and hatching in your home, only jumping on the cats to feed
A can of indorex will treat a 3 bedroom house twice a year
Follow the directions, get a decent flea treatment for the cats and you will be flea free within 3 months0 -
THANK YOU everyone.
sorry, I wrote a reply, pressed post and at the same time lost internet connection! just realised it hadn't gone!
Indorex and advantage ordered!
I had been using frontline, but moved over to broadline a couple of months ago, on the vets recommendation. - hadn't spotted any fleas before using the broadline!0 -
If the products you've already ordered don't work out, you may want to talk to your local council about booking a flea treatment.
It's one of the things I do as part of my job and householders tell me that they've spent a fortune on topical treatments for the pets and room sprays and bombs and still have problems. This will typically be a chargable service but likely to be much cheaper than private companies and there may well be a concessionary rate for those on low income benefits - check their website.
Fleas often lay in the crevices between the skirting board and the floor and the eggs can stay dormant for months even in empty, pet-less houses. The hatch is triggered by vibrations as from footfalls in a newly-occupied house and the turning on of the central heating for the first time in autumn is another cue for a hatch.
For those who have a bagged vacuum cleaner, you can buy a flea collar and put it into the bag then go flea-hunting in the crevices with the crevice tool on your vac to hopefully get the eggs. Then immediately discard the bag into a sealed plastic bag and into the bin outside. HTH.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

If you want a natural treatment, diatomaceous earth brushed lightly into the carpet and round the skirting boards and left for a few days is supposed to be quite effective. But until the little b*ggers become immune, I'd go for chemical weapons (just watch out that the Americans don't invade):DIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0
