Hi moved to a shared accommodation I found on spareroom.co.uk a few weeks ago, since we really don't mind sharing the same space with another person to save some £££. This is an annex with a small room+ small toilet+ small kitchen that has "all bills included".
Today the person that actually owns the place told me that there are "council employees in the area" and not to let anyone in, in case someone knocks at the door asking for details - and to call him instead. And that I should only say I am a "friend" occupying ONLY one room temporarily, without giving me any more details.
I am scared now and want to move again. I don't like these dodgy situations, but am scared because it might take some months until I find an alternative place to go.
What should I do?

I don't see there's much you can do apart from looking for alternative accommodation. But I think you're right to be concerned. If he is actually the owner, he may not have permission for the annex to be occupied by anyone other than family. And if he is in fact renting himself, he's probably in breach of his tenancy agreement.Signature removed for peace of mind0
