How to clean up properly cooking oil spillage on kitchen vinyl

Have just returned home to discover my eldest daughter managed to drop a bottle of cooking oil all over my kitchen floor and up the cupboards.
She has tried to mop it up using the whole on the contents of my t-towel drawer which she has then left by the washing machine for me.
Im going to use very hot water with I thought bio washing powder to wipe down my vinyl and cupboards will this work? or should I be using something else?
Also will the oil wash out of my t-towels do they need a hot wash with bio?
Any help and advise is most welcome its like a skating ring in my kitchen  Tia

Cover the floor with cat litter to absorb as much as possible

Sweep up then it's hot soapy water then hot water rinses

    Washing up liquid will do

Tea towels will clean up on a hot wash. Give an extra rinse

Washing up liquid will do fine. And your daughter has TRIED to clear up, give her a break
  • Just a note of caution, a friend of mine had to clean up an olive oil spill, she chucked the towels in the machine and put them on a hot wash, but the oil still bunged up her machine, might be worth doing a hand wash as hot as you can stand, and tip the water in the garden or something ..

You need an emulsifier that will bind the oil to the washing water. Washing-up liquid probably better than detergent for this, at least for the first wash.

It doesn't need to be very hot as oil is already liquid, but as cornishchick says put the washing water (both floor and towels) onto the garden rather than putting through the washing machine or the inside drains.

At least it wasn't hot oil which would have damaged the vinyl.

If this happens the best thing to do is pour a large quanntity of salt onto the initial spill, then sweep the semi solid oily salt up. Before washing with detergent.
