Hi, Wondered if anyone could help me. Took out a loan with HFC in 2005. In 2008 had a letter offering good discount if I paid in full. Did so. But am being threatened with court action saying loan has defaulted. My account shows payment of the amount in 2008. Trouble is that HFC and HSBC merged into one and the collections company say they only have records of our transactions with HSBC at the time and they say that they do not keep any records from HFC as they have been destroyed or inaccessible. I have contacted ombudsman but what else can I do. My wife and I are 100% certain that account was settled and we had a letter to that effect from HFC but no longer have this. Grateful of help please.

If you've not paid anything or acknowledged the loan since 2008 then it's probably statute barred anyway.
Somebody will be along soon with a link to the 'Prove it' letter to send them.0
