Returning to UK from abroad

Hi,

I know this cropped up a couple of post below (@bbucks1 - but didn't want to hog their thread). Can anyone shed light on returning to the UK from overseas (i lived abroad for 3 years, and had my parents address in the UK as my contact address with bank etc). Didn't close accounts either in UK. I am now living perm in UK and don't intend to travel again. i'm a UK citizen - also have PR abroad until 2020 (will this be seen as a risk to lenders?!) I'm happy to cancel my PR if thats the case!

I have heard lenders want 3 years of address'? Can i just provide my parents address? Should this pose a problem - i'm a FTB. Hoping to purchase mid 2017 so would have been back in UK for 1.5yrs at that point.

Thanks

You will need your case 'managed' but should have a good number of options.

    What do you mean "managed"?
I'll be in a similar position, returning home after working abroad. Bank address was changed to a family member temporarily.

  • We were in a similar position but bought a flat within 6 months of us coming back.

By "managed" I guess amn means use a broker, and this is absolutely the best advice. We were limited to one or two lenders, but Halifax and RBS had no problem with us being out of the country. We had no probabtion period on the new job, so that may be a factor if there is one.

Basically, use a broker and you should be fine.

You say you have lived abroad and actually input the correct foreign addresses, regardless of what's been left registered at Mummy & Daddy's.

This will mean the likes of Nationwide are out until you have really lived in the UK for three years again.

There are several lenders who accept short-term residence back in the UK and a broker will ensure your application goes to one of these.

Factually it is not correct. So not recommended. Merely brings into doubt whether you have been truthful in answering other questions.
