For future readers, for those going on holiday or breaks during an application, best to have all possible scanned documents stored on an encrypted pen drive or secured cloud storage to prepare for any uncertainties.

I had them all done before my application and sent them all to my broker who had a comprehensive list of documents to send him. He was excellent.

Hope it goes well for you on your next app.

    Just thought I would update!

On the last email where I was told they cannot reopen my case, I sent a brief message back saying I was very disappointed with the process as the case seems to have been badly handled with them losing documents and different people telling me different things. I asked for the address of their complaints department as I was thinking about making an official complaint.

I never did get any details of where to complain to and then I just forgot about it!

Imagine my surprise when I received a written reply to my official complaint! It seems the brief email I sent was forward as my full complaint.

The reply states Nationwide have done nothing wrong and the fault is all mine because I made no communication at all with the society between the 14th July and the 9th August, so they assumed I no longer wanted the mortgage.

I do have several emails of dialogue between me and them during this period and their receipt of the missing documents is lodged in the application tracker online!

Beggars belief that they can't even get a reply to a complaint letter right!
Here I go again on my own....

That sounds shambolic, I hope you have managed to get a mortgage with another lender by now. I had my last mortgage with Nationwide years ago now, and seem to recall they were quite slow then. They also continued taking payments after the mortgage had been paid off, so we ended up with a credit balance. I suppose I should count myself lucky they declined my application this time.
  • Tweet them with a complaint, 2 years ago they asked me over and over and over (repeat 3 more times) for all paperwork and kept giving me new case numbers, it took about 8 months for me to get into my house in the end and when I tweeted about how totally incompetent they were it got approved straight away and got a poxy cheque for £100 for my distress.

Shambolic is the word, can't wait to get away from them.
