Do you get a SORN/No insurance reminder?

If there is no insurance on a vehicle do you get a reminder that the vehicle needs to be insured or SORN'ed or is the fine automatic?

It's not an offence to not have insurance on your car. The offence is when you drive an uninsured car. Therefore you will be prosecuted when and if you are caught.

I thought it was now an offence to have an uninsured car which is still taxed? Or does that rule not apply in Northern Ireland yet?


PS the car is not on the road and not being driven at present.


It is for sale - and will hopefully sell very quickly.


It will be easier just to fill in a transfer of ownership if it sells in the next few days, than SORN it, and then do a separate transfer of ownership.
