Credit File: Default date doesn't add up

  • OK the plot thickens on this. After requesting an update via Experian, I've received the following reply.
    Link Financial are still investigating your query and have advised Equifax that the original vendor of this account is The CO-OPERATIVE Bank. The account was opened 19/07/2001 & defaulted 10/08/2012. The account was assigned to Link on 15/12/2014 and we are unable to confirm if the default is correct as this has been supplied to us at assignment. However, we have contacted The CO-OPERATIVE Bank to confirm if the default has been registered correctly and we will advise Customer accordingly.

    I do understand that Lenders don't HAVE to default an account but what happens now? The last token payment was made on the 07/07/2010 as I described in my original post.

    Will I have to pay this debt in order to have it removed so I can go on to apply for a mortgage?
