Hi have had 2 c-sections and one 'normal birth'.........the pillow/cushion was invaluable but wasn't until i was told to place it across my c-section and pull into it to sit up, move to end of bed and use it to stand in the first few days,,as the old stomach muscles are v v sore the pillow takes the pressure off that area,,,,,,it should be law we are all told that after a c-section lol made a huge difference.........i was able to 'get up to' my son in the incubator without too much of a struggle'
Also place a sanitory towel across the stiches (sticky side to pants lol) this stops clothes/ pyjamas/nighties sticking or rubbing on stiches/scar once dressing off..........
more sort of advice than items, but hope it helps!!
vasaline defo as hospital boiling!!
water bottles as water in jugs gross/lucozade as need strength to function
breast pads, paper nickers,,sanitory towels, face cream,shower gel,shampoo, (sachets?),deo,hand cream,magazine, arnica cream,
some nice cheap bigish nickers 5 for £5 in sainsburys as long as u can fit some 'always' in the gusset!! (paper ones are not the law lol!!)
chocolate!!!!
the vouchers are great idea,,,,,,,,,,ask if they want help,if they say no ask again ,,there must be summin she wants u to do,,,,even if its make another cuppa,,,,or hold fred whilst mum does summin else..........0 -
Drink cartons or cans always went down well with me as I'm not a big water drinker.
Face wipes, magazines, chocolate, chocolate, chocolate, chocolate and errmm some chocolate!! Cereal bars anything like that that she can just grab and munch on when she feels like it.
Hope all goes well for her. let us know how she does.0 -
If the hospital is anything like mine - bring food! My DH had to bring me in fresh wraps etc from Sainsburys. He also washed some fresh berries/grapes and brought those in a cool bag with ice block. Water bottles with the sports top are easier by far to drink out of when you can't even sit up without help.
I agree wholeheartedly with the arnica tablets - Boots sell them.
We were told at NCT antenatal classes to not use perfumed products for several weeks after giving birth - naturally or not - to enable baby to learn what we smelled like. I just used unperfumed toiletries for that period. The IVF worked;DS born 2006.0 -
I've had 2 emergency sections now, and this would be a really strange present - but really useful in hospital and at home -
a stepstool to help her get in/out of bed!
You can usually pick them up for £1.50 ish from all cheap shops!! They are usually for kids when they wash their hands at the sink/start using the toilet!
Honestly I wasn't given one after my first section and found it really hard going. On my first night in the ward I got "stuck" trying to get out of bed in fear of ripping my scar open. I couldn't reach the buzzer, it was too late to call out for help from the other mums and I just had to "hang" off the bed sobbing until it was time for the next midwife round! (Which was a good couple of hours later!) I also had my baby in one arm and big wires hanging off me for my drip on the other which didn't help!
They provided me with one after my second section and it was soooo useful, especially when the midwife cranks up the bed too high and you don't see anyone for a couple of hours to change it!!
The slightest thing like that is agony!!
It will help with toilet, bath and bed at home, (which is difficult for a couple of weeks) and she can always keep it for when little one grows up!
You could get one and put it upside down underneath all her "goodies"
Trust me she will thank you for it!!!
It's really thoughtful of you to think about it actually - I curse people who thought I had the "easy option" it certainly isn't for a good few weeks after the birth, they won't let me try a natural birth now after having complications with the last surgery, and I really don't think I could put myself through it again!
Hope that helps!!!

i agree with everyone's idea's but another thing you could get her is a fruit basket as well as the choc's, my MIL got me a fruit basket and it had some really nice fruit and some yummy Lindt chocolate in it, it was great to be able to just grab some fruit if i was feeling hungry!!
i think my MIL went to the local market to get it and they put it ina nice wicker basket with a balloon as well0 -
Just had another thought - a cheapy clock!!!!
The midwives would ask when the last time I breastfed the baby was and I'd be like ermmmm.....don't know!!! making me look like I didn't have a clue what I was doing, but really it was because there was no clock anywhere on the wards!!! Also good for counting down the hours till you got visitors etc!!!!!
Let us know what you choose!!!
