Anyone else had the email from Science in Sport?
Subject - Congratulations - You've Won
Open the email, at the top it says Congratulations You're A Winner!
Then there's a lovely photo underneath of a really nice bike and some other bits and bobs.
Then further down they tell you you've won a £5 discount voucher.
I've had a lot of this type of email but this is the worst one yet. Why do companies think this is good marketing? It's just made me hate the company!

Heaven knows why they do it but it doesn't seem to give them many Brownie points as, like you and probably many others too, it makes me feel !!!!!! off with the company so I immediately unsubscribe from their emails!:TA big thanks to all who post and sprinkling lucky dust to all who enter :smileyhea0

It's their revenge against compers who use Adblock0

It annoyed me so I unsubscribed. I wonder if they take note that when they do this people unsubscribe so lose followers?Wins:

How annoying! I would be raging too.0

Business don't care that you hate them for this. They succeeded in doing what they set out to do - make you talk about them ..... ^0

As long as you open the email the company wins.
It's done to get your attention and they make you read the sales patter and offers before they get to the climax.........you didn't win.
A sure fire way to get the email read.#JusticeForGrenfell0 -
I've had two in the last month! Do they not realise that after the first one, they aren't fooling anybody?0

Why do companies do this?
People who were already going to buy or were seriously thinking about doing so may appreciate the discount and those unsubscribing were probably those least likely to order anyway so it weeds out the mailing list a bit.0 -
It would have the opposite effect on me, I would go elsewhere, Surely a sorry you didn't win here's a discount though would be more effective - I have had plenty of these in the pastproud gran to 4 lovely boys and one little girl0

Generally, seasoned compers will know that WEMs come directly from a person and under someones name rather than a company email address (ie from John Smith not Big Johns) although there are small exceptions to the rule when the company lists the winner in the e-mail and may not have contacted them directly. So generally you will know when you see something like that to take it for the marketing exercise it is and delete it.
Average none-comping Joe will click on that and think they've won something whilst not necessarily entering a competition. Thus its plain and simple click bait, if they've got you to click on the email they've succeeded in getting their message over to you.0
