We did half package, half DIY. Venue for ours sorted out the catering and a few other things like basic decorations and tables / chairs / linen / cutlery / napkins etc. We then made our own invites, order of service, table arrangements, favours, cake, decorations etc, and we dressed the venue ourselves.

We wanted a more traditional sit down wedding breakfast, and that's what we had.

One thing i would say though, think about how much time it may take to do things like create the invites. It took us a few evenings solid of sticking, cutting and gluing to make our own, and reduced the cost from around £100 to about £20 for invites, same for thank you's, order of service etc. You can find some real good deals on ebay too from other people#s weddings and also for new things if you wanted to order stationary items. If you can invest the time, it's worthwhile doing more DIY as you can as wedding costs can easily run up.

All in, we spent a lot of money - over £10k on ours all in excluding honeymoon, however it was such an amazing day and for the memories, i think it was worth it.
