Thursday 4th August - What small DFW things will you do today?!

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important

    Morning

    Just eating brekkie then I need to get myself dressed and hair dried and off to work. I have been sorting finances too this morning, my balance transfer has come in so my bank balance looks amazing! I want to spend it on some new clothes, a nice holiday, a new bike, some new curtains but it will be shuffled around tonight to pay off the old cards.

    I have joined a new (free) cycling group that starts tonight, bit nervous in case everyone else is super fast but I am sure it will be fine. I would love a new bike but there isnt the funds for that at the moment.

    Right best get a move on, have a good Thursday everyone x

    Hi everyone :D thanks for starting the thread La E! I joined the "up early" crew as well this morning! Got up at 6 intending to go to the allotment but when I got up I wasn't feeling great, have got a bit of a temp and just feel grotty, so didn't go in the end. Hope it clears up as supposed to be going camping on Saturday for 4 nights with some friends...

    Going to take it easy today, but will need to think of activities to do with dgd. Was planning to go swimming but think that is definitely out....

    dd might be moving today. She missed a call from the LA late yesterday afternoon. If it is today I will then scrap today's plans and go and help her with the move

    Smalls for today:

    * did this mornings harvest - runner beans, french beans and tomatoes. Freeze beans as won't eat today
    * Go over cc statement and work out when I am totaling it to £21 more than the bill & pay
    * all meals from stores - corned beef hash today
    * list things on fleabay
    * book courrier service to collect a bike seat :T
    * post 2 letters
    * oh to pick up some tent pegs
    * msg bff and ask we I can borrow a couple of camping items
    * continue writing list of things to gather for camping
    * plant basil, corriander and rocket
    * plant some strawberry runners

    I have been keeping a running total of it would have cost me for the veg I have grown (or foraged - but this is a small amount of the total, although expect that to go up considerably in the next month) and so far my total is £91.77. This is offset by the £167 I have spent on things needed. The figure is high but includes £37 for the allotment (£25 of which is a deposit and I will get back next year), £24 for a bottle of weed killer (again for the allotment), a pair of sheers £19 and a fork £12 & a hoe £4. A lot of these costs are obviously one offs and will be spread over next & subsequent years. So taking out the deposit cost my real cost for a year long hobby has been £50ish and this will continue to be reduced over the next couple, of months

    I picked a load of blackberries last night (425grms to be exact!) and when looking on mysupermarket the cost of these would have been £7 in the shops :eek: who on earth would pay this? :eek:

    That's all I can think of. Happy Thursday x

    Evening all :)
    Thanks for starting us off La E - I am always up early too :)
    Hope the cycling goes well YL :)
    Just waved goodbye to GD4 and getting ready to welcome GD1 phew! GDs 2 & 3 are keen to come and stay apparently :eek:

    Not much done, as little 2 year old GD4 takes all my time and energy :o (kudos to DNMS :T though I probably do have more than 20 years on you :p:rotfl:)

    • Shopping at Mr S, used a coupon to get extra nectar points. Also got some more free wine boxes for packing ebay sales :T
    • Quick tidy up before GD4 got here
    • Cleaned the ensuite bathroom ready for GD4
    • HM meals, leftovers for dinner
    • Washing dry on line
    • Watered French beans
    • Entertained GD4 for free, park, puppy walk, drawing, peppa pig on my laptop, water play, a picnic in the garden :)
    Right, got to get ready to entertain the next one now! Might need a glass of wine!

    Dawn you are obviously a fab gran if they all want to come to you. I know what you mean though DD is 9months now and very mobile. She can walk all round the furniture, & walk easily around if you hold her hand. She has literally zero interest in toys. Preferring instead to pull out all the DVDs and books/anything that isnt sitting nicely with a toy. Its knackering!
