I just watched a tv programme about benefits, and someone on the programme makes their own home made washing powder.
With prices increasing, does anyone else do this, and how?

I dont think it is any cheaper than buying soap powder, but you are in control of the smell and it is probably a lot better for the environment.
One grated bar of soap (morrisons do a green household one)
250g (ish) of soda crystals like this one..https://flubit.com/gifts?fo_c=1391&fo_k=97886191c6c610c47d74f1b25030f614&fo_s=gplauk&gclid=CIOJ8rqHp84CFQIW0wodW6cP_A#!/share/6EEY1N
And 250g of borax. You can get it on ebay but it isnt cheap. If you leave it out just use double the amount of soda.
It needs a tablespoon or less per wash.0 -

Soda crystals are 79p in home bargains.
And I find the Aldi washing powder to work out just as cheap as making your own, and it is far more convenient. You can always add soda crystals to normal washing powder to make it go further, and never ever use as much as it says on the box - I get away with around 50g a wash instead of the 130 it tells me to use for a 6kg load.0 -

Same as me I used to make Gloop... Home made washing machine soap but Aldi powder is cheap so don't bother with Gloop now.Plus I add soda crystals from Home Bargains so the soap powder last ages0 -
I use soap nuts ........ They grow on trees.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

I knew there was something else I wanted at Aldi today but forgot what it was
Many years ago a washing machine repair man told me to half the powder suggested on the box and half it again and you should be about right! He said most problems with washing machines were due to the use of too much powder. Its not that we have more patience as we grow older, its just that we're too tired to care about all the pointless drama0 -
Just to let others know the p*undshop online has Rapid liquid gel at the moment for coloureds and another for whites for £1 obviously. I used to make my own gloop and it was very time consuming. This Rapid gel is really good and very cheap with 1 litre enough for 25 washes as stated on the bottle. Although you can use less per load as others do.
P*undshop online delivery is free for a £30 or over shop. (sorry I am not very good at posting links). Maybe someone could add it.
Hope that is some use to others.
