Full time student lone parent, housing benefit in Scotland, any advice ?
Options
Hi, I'll be a full time university student in September as a lone parent, I can't seem to find any help and advice online about housing benefit, I will be receiving a full student loan of £6750 for the year, no bursary and the only other income I will be receiving is child tax credits/child benefit) I have found out I can apply for housing benefit for a private let but am needing to find out if they count the student loan in the calculation for housing benefit? And if so how much of the student loan will I need to use to pay towards rent- ie - how much /what percentage of the loan do they take into consideration, Im sure that years ago they never counted the student loan towards a housing benefit calculation as it was a loan which had to be paid back but have been told it might have changed now? Does anyone have any experience or advice about this? Thanks in advance

My only advice is to post this on the benefits board http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=139 - this place is very lightly trafficked!
Good luck getting a useful answer, and with your studies.0
