  • I play quite often and OH plays for a living so I know enough to get me by :)

You can view a list of poker rules on most internet poker room sites, pokerstars is one of the best, most comprehensive ones http://www.pokerstars.com/poker/games/texas-holdem/ and I'm sure if you read through it you could condense it down and put in into a nice frame for him. Pokerlistings.com is pretty good too (and easier to follow!) http://www.pokerlistings.com/poker-rules.

The other thought I had is putting something like this http://www.pokersyte.com/hand_values.gif in a frame (esp if you have a artist friend to paint it for you), he'll no doubt already know the hand listings but it'd make a nice print in his room.

We had a casino themed evening last year, and one of the things we did was to translate a pack of cards into food:

    Lovehearts - suit of hearts!
Club biscuits - suit of clubs!

Cant remember what we had for spades or diamonds but you get the general idea!
  • THanks everyone, so far I have bought shot glasses and a poker key ring, also have a bottle of whisky oh doesnt like so he will get that too, am starting to look out for items suggested and will keep you posted and put up pics when done

  • Hi
How about a magazine subscription to 'Inside Poker' save up to 86%!!! - I have just done this for Hubby as we can't buy it in our area.
It is only £1 for the first 3 issues (they come out once a month) and then £4.99 for every 6 issues after that (all by direct debit)

I paid £1 for first 3 and if need be it can be canceled before the £4.99 comes out after 3 months - not bad eh?

ps, you can go through Quidco and get £5 cash back so the gift pays for itself!

    that looks fab!

just had a thought (far too late for christmas - so sorry!) - there's a film called Bounders about poker with Matt Damon and Edward Norton. my OH is plays a lot of poker and gets irritated by the way it is sometimes shown in films (apparently too much gets explained - the casino royale scene really got his goat! he doesn't appreciate that not everyone knows the odds of making each draw!!) - but he really liked this one. i even enjoyed it too (although i have absorbed more poker knowledge than i realised!). might do for a birthday?

EDIT - OH has now informed me that the film is called Rounders not Bounders..... i was concentrating, really :$
    :happyhear
  • That looks amazing!
  • thanks i forgot i also put a visor in, will get my hubby to download that film too!
