    I'm quite handy with a needle and while I'd willingly tackle hems or even make a garment from scratch I'd pay to have alterations done where a waistband was involved (and stiffeners and pockets sewn in etc etc).


    I suggest that you spend an absolute minimum on new clothes (CS if at all possible) until you get to the weight you want to be. Then treat yourself, you deserve it!:)

    It depends on the style of trousers--for skinnies yes. For anything else you can usually get away with two sizes. Pocket placement and belt loops can also start to be an issue and on women's trousers especially you can also get complications with the rise. Trouser alterations are not for the faint-hearted. I'll happily do skirts with waistbands and pockets if the garment is of good quality--it is it bit laborious but otherwise straightforward. Trousers are another matter entirely.
