Thanks, will phone OU first thing tomorrow, sounds hopeful

The crb, well I am starting a degree in radiography next year and as I will be working in a hospital will be having a full CRB disclosure. I am worried if any of the creditors do put a CCJ on me, it will show up on CRB??
Hi love the CCJ will NOT show up on a full CRB disclosure as i have been CRB checked many times in my job as a nursery nurse and my CCJ#s have never been an issue they would only look for criminal convictions good luck love

  • Wordsfan - I disagree about OU being essentially a private route. For some it is the only option. I couldn't have gone to a brick uni because of childcare. I have done my degree with OU and it hasn't cost me a penny because i have been entitled to full funding. That has saved me getting into thousands of £ in student debt to add to my current debts. It has been a life line to me. If you are entitled to funding and are interested in the degrees they offer, then why get into debt for something you can get for free?

As I said in my previous posts, your childcare gets paid for you by the local authority. I just found there was a lot more financial help available than if I'd gone OU route - which I did seriously look at. My debts (aside from my student loan which I don't really view as a debt - more as a bill for my study to be paid in the distant future), did not occur as a result of my study, but because I became ill and was not paying certain bills when I should have been, a couple (council tax from when I was still a student!!) aren't even my liability!!

There are also other benefits, you have other students and lecturers available daily for academic and personal support. Plus better access to the academic resources and online resources. Plus space and time to study without the kids at your feet, plus for a full degree it can be a lot quicker.

I have friends who've done degrees via OU and to be honest they've said to me - having seen how it was when I went to uni, that they wished they'd gone to brick uni.

It's definitely a personal thing I just think brick was much easier than OU for full degree, though I am certainly considering OU for short courses.
