Joint Policy payout to one party?

I have a joint endowment policy with my ex-husband. It matured in November 2015 and I have been fighting with the insurance company to get them to pay the whole value to me - they will only give me half. I have no idea where my ex is (even if he is alive ) and not in touch with anyone who knows him. Didn't assign the policy as part of divorce, no-one told me to. Have offered to sign an indemnity but company just says no without saying why. Does anyone have a successful outcome to similar scenario? Would be very grateful for any advice. :p

They are acting in the correct way. I suspect they will hold firm unless instructed to pay to you via a court order.
  • Cannot see any reason why the insurance company would pay to only one party. Even if the other party was dead, the half share would belong to his Estate.

The simplest thing would be to track down the ex - cannot be that hard these days given social media etc and surely the OP must know some of his relatives, friends etc who might know his whereabouts.
