Help with Advantis/HMRC debt i dont think i owe?

Hi,
I am after some advice after now receiving a few letters from Advantis. I originally received a couple about a year ago which i thought had been dealt with but ive now had another two within the last 4 weeks, and automated phone calls.
The letters state i supposedly owe £70 to them on behalf of HMRC. It does not state why or where this figure has come from.
My only inkling about what this debt could be was from back in 2014 where i went self employed for 4 months and paying National Insurance. As i said previously, i had letters last year so called HMRC to make sure my employment status was correct and im sure i paid any outstanding NI then. Even if i didnt, surely HMRC would have addressed letters to me first before going to DCA?
I submitted my SA tax return in January, and as far as i know, that was all fine. The bit that mystifies me is that HMRC dont seem to have contacted me directly.
I dont know if i should make contact with Advantis, and i dont want to call their line at my expense.
To sum up, should i fight this, or just accept it and pay them? i really dont want any more from them.
TIA

Hi dw85
You could do worse than to send a "Prove it" letter to Advantis:

Advantis will only be acting for HMRC, you can safely leave them out of the loop.
Maybe best to call HMRC direct and see what's what ?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. I am now being chased by Advantis over a Tax Credit debt which I've asked HMRC to prove (they haven't bothered to reply to a registered letter!). This is the 4th company I've had chasing the same debt - once I explain that HMRC haven't replied to my letter asking for proof where various money they have already taken off us went, and how we are now being chased for a debt from 2008 has come about, they stop calling. It then gets passed to a different company and I have to go through the same process again.
If HMRC would bother to reply with the information we have asked for, this could probably all be sorted out - but after several phone calls where we were on hold for over 40 minutes, we've given up trying to talk to anyone there directly, as you just get a call centre who can't /won't help you. Has anyone had any more luck with this than us?0
