Deferring State Pension

I understand the rules about surviving spouse/partner claiming any additional state pension due after deceased defers it https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/525363/state-pension-deferral-if-you-reached-state-pension-age-before-6-april-2016-and-you-die-extra-information.pdf
The document clearly states the surviving spouse can claim the extra payments in examples ,
1. When the spouse dies before claiming
2. When the spouse dies after claiming but before deciding how the additional payments are made , i.e. Lump sum or weekly/monthly payments .
What happens after spouse claims and receives additional state pension and then dies , is the surviving partner able to claim as in the above 2 examples ?
Found it a bit unclear
Thanks

You mean that a pre 2016 rules pensioner has brought the deferred pension into payment, has received the lump sum/increased pension as appropriate, and dies at some point after this?
If so, the information below seems relevant?

Thanks for reply , yes wife deferred June 2014 and intends to claim July 2017 and take deferred payments monthly ,as well as her State pension .
I will be SP age Jan 2017 , the link you posted refers to additional state pension (serps) , I maybe getting confused re the terminoligy and we are still unclear if this included any deferred payments ?0 -
Your wife reached SPA under the old rules.
You reach SPA under the new rules. Incidentally, have you obtained a new state pension statement?

I reached pension age when 62 (4 years ago). I deferred. My husband died within a month of my deferring so I now have 'inherited' his because he was born 1942 and these are also deferred.
I asked for a pension statement about 12 months ago and found that the deferred sp actually was much more than my NHS pension (Band 7 since 1998 - so 15k as opposed to 17k for sp)
I am still deferred and still working at 65
probably go on til 66 - best investment ever a deferred sp....0 -
Yes got a recent statement online for Jan 2017 , 43 yrs Ni , many yrs contracted out £122.83 pw , wife was £131 pw when she deferred in June 2014 .
We estimated roughly that she would receive £170 pw approx in July 2017 , reading that new link it says as she was in the old system any deferred payment can be claimed by me in the event of her dying 1st .
Thanks Again0 -
The jargon is that if you get a bigger pension as a reward for deferring, the extra pension is called - wait for it! - Extra Pension. It used to be known as "increments". There will be endless confusion if you call it Additional Pension.Free the dunston one next time too.0

What do you need to do to defer the state pension if you started receiving it 2 years ago?0

Just ring up and they will sort it , you won't benefit from the 10.4% per yr that deferring generates , it was reduced to roughly half that (5.8%) from April this yr for new applications .0

Oh, I didn't realise that!
I thought if you reached SPA before 2016, then the 10.4% applied.0
