An employee perspective on Productivity

Got it in one, for salaries to rise, company profits have to be strong and repeat orders assured. Productivity is in the title of this thread, did you notice? And the way to get those German-style improvements in living standard is to take part in a higher productivity economy.
"You guys want Brexit" - what''s that got to do with the price of fish?0 -
Are you saying that in order for us to compete internationally, we have to sell our goods and services more cheaply?
The price of our goods and services hasn't changed. £1 = £1 still.
What's changed is how many £'s overseas customers get for their Yen, Dollar, Euro etc. To them buying from the UK is therefore better.
To pay higher salaries companies need to improve sales and thereby increase profits. If you've a manufacturing plant running at say 80% capacity. The bulk of your costs are fixed. So any additional sales are more profitable.0 -

So you agree, the price of our goods and services has changed.0 -

So yes we can . It's called increased productivity.
Well, I'm getting a very confused message here. We magic up productivity by making us all poorer by devaluing GBP which is good because we can compete internationally and our workers wages will rise and they will be more productive but it's bad because Carney is doing it on purpose to make everyone poorer and prove that he was right all along because he is an egomaniac and a sociopath.
It is hard to keep up with the spin.0 -

To think that a devaluation improves productivity would be an economically illiterate viewpoint.
A lower £ makes the UK more competitive, which helps compensate for our natively low productivity.0 -
Magic up productivity by devaluing. Is that your personal interpretation or can you quote another source?

It isn't my viewpoint. I'm trying to understand your mixed up logic.A lower £ makes the UK more competitive, which helps compensate for our natively low productivity.
So are you pro lower £ or not? I can't work out what you're trying to say.0 -
There is a clear class difference (if we use private school attendance as a proxy for class) but with the "higher" classes having a far superior attitude to education with a clear work ethic.
I'll agree on the education and then that is the catalyst for the work ethic issue. If you leave school at 16 with little qualifications, then you have a small chance of getting a job that pays well, but essentially you are going to be doing mundane NMW type jobs. If people are motivated by money, they'll work hard in my experience.Delivering goods on our roads can't be that inefficient comparably.. But the only real leap forward from 38 tonne trucks is driverless 38 tonne trucks.
Might be a game changer for me ( not that I intend to be in business at that point). It's currently cheaper for me to bring a truck back from the Continent empty, than it is to load it. Take the expensive drivers out of the equation and it brings my costs down to similar to the Polish etc.0 -
So far I've worked in 2 IT jobs in the UK, 1 in China. The biggest struggle with the jobs I've had in the UK is trying to look busy the other 7 hours per day once the 30 minutes of stuff is out the way. Needless to say I'll be changing jobs again soon but hold little hope it will be different unless I manage to land my ideal employerMortgage (Nov 15): £79,950 | Mortgage (May 19): £71,754 | Mortgage (Sep 22): £0
Cashback sites: £900 | £30k in 2016: £30,300 (101%)0 -

So you are a lazy worker of the sort we do not need?
Or a brilliant worker who is so poorly rewarded you cannot be bothered to work for a full day?Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0
