Alternatively, you could just change the WiFi Password, thereby locking out any unauthorised users.

Indeed, it's a good idea, to change the Password from time to time anyway.

Wifi passwords are totally irrelevent to a hacker.
They do not hack the password (these days) .. They use a vulnerability in the WPA system to brute force the WPA pin. This vuln means they only have to brute force the first 4 digits and the router spits out the other 4.
I can hack your wifi in a maximum of 4 hours, length and complexity of password are totally irrelevent.

The only way to secure your router is to disable the WPA feature and it boggles my mind how this is not disabled out of the box.

If you mean, will I now buy a TV Licence?, the answer is no.

I don't watch any BBC programmes, so the change to the I-Player rules won't affect me.

In answer to OP, on one machine, wouldn't ipconfig /release then ipconfig /renew have worked?

yes spud, probably on a windows machine, but the op didn't seem comfortable with anything too techie (no disrespect to the op) hence other simpler advice given first :)
    ......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D

Hi spud, thanks for that, but, as Gunjack rightly said, I'm not too savvy with the router etc.so didn't want to mess around with it too much.
Your info alone means nowt to me, unless I try it once, then ok after that.

Surely, If someone is going to the trouble to Hack into my Router, it's not just to get free Wifi?
If I change my Password, and they are really after something, then they would do it again.??
Pity Ipad doesn't use ethernet, which I prefer, for security.
    OR am I wrong.?

Too many cards on the mantle shelf now':-)
    Another beggar yesteday

I keep nipping in and out, just to familiarise myself with it.
Things seem ok so far, no more Windows dialogue boxes, and cannot see anything dubious.BUT, Don't really know what I'm looking for, other than any devices on my network, with same IP??
Didn't realise my Kindle had one:-)
    But always willng to learn.
Gunjacks advice has always been sound in the past.
All on here have been really helpful
