Telephone directories

Hi,
Is there anyone I can contact to stop receiving telephone directories and yellow pages.

I recycle these as soon as I receive them as we don't use them
( search on the net instead)

thank you

  • Me too, the phone book is all online now, as is yellow pages. So we should be able to 'opt-out' these days!

Sell them to a circus strong man. :-)
  • I have just spoken to BT about this, apparently you cvan't opt out. It's an automatic service. Every one on the Royal Mail list who has a postcode will receive a phonebook whether they want it or not.

So why not use them to make paper pots for your seedlings, there's a link on the gardening board, if I can find it I will edit it in.

Alternatively, local primary schools in our area were collecting directories last year, this scheme might still be running. Why don't you contact a local school to ask?

    Thanks for the info.
It does seem silly though to send out all those directories,
    what a waste of paper!!!.

Just had an email to say that I've been removed from the mailing list for Yellow Pages.

I contacted them throught their web site

and asked if I could opt out of recieving it.

    One down one to go

The thing is though Yell.com and the Yellow Pages are 2 different directories, not everyone in the book is on the site. Also you'll get more information in the book as more people will have in-depth larger ads, I find most of yell.com is just names and numbers

Also the online directories aint much use if you have an electrical fault and need an electrician, computer fault and need a computer repairer, etc

    Didn't realise that.

Many have websites which generally give more info than Yellow Pages ads. You can guess or Google the ones that are not linked from yell.com

You can search for electricians, computer shops, butchers, bakers and candlestick makers on yell.com

Yeh you can usually do searches to find people's websites, but it doesn't always get results
Cost me £50 to add my web address in the yellow pages, they wanted £300+ to add it on yell.com

What I meany by my last statement was if you're leccy's off or the computer's broke you might not have much luck accessing the internet :p

    Blimey!

I tend to use Google to search - and that's free to 'advertise' on as long as you have a good webmaster who knows how to get your site at the top of the listings.

If I need a local trades man, I contact the local council information centre,
they have a list of registered traders.
Don't know if all councils have this information but I find it very helpfull
