I am a member of Virgin Active Preston and it is one of the club's that's are being taken over by Nuffield Health. I am currently in a 12 month contract with Virgin but I wanted to know if I'd be able to get out of it now that it is being taken over by Nuffield Health.
I called Virgin Active but they wouldn't let me cancel.
Anyone know the legal element of it?
Thanks

Of course they will say no.
Read the terms of your contract, how are we supposed to know what it says?0 -
Why do you want to cancel ?
Your in a contract which means you can't leave until the contract is up, read your contract to be sure.0 -
I am a member of VA with multi club access rights.
While my home gym is staying with VA some of the other clubs I use are transferring over to Nuffield so I won't be able to use them anymore.
I only found out about via this website and the media - no one at VA has communicated this change to their members at other clubs.
Seems based on the Press statements there may be further plans a foot to transfer some of the standard central London clubs to their Collection brand where the monthly fees are double. Hopefully VA might have the courtesy to let us know what they are planning to do - or will they just inform us sorry next month your club is being rebranded and your fee is going up by up to £100 a month?
Communication is not their strong point.
Re the OP enquiry the FAQs are here - your VA contract will continue with Nuffield until it expires although they may let you move to a Nuffield contract. Personally I think this is wrong - you joined VA not Nuffield but I expect the terms of acquisition cover that.

I managed to get my contract terms online and it says in section 14 that they don't have to provide notice when transferring their right or obligations to another organisation , however it does say "if the organisation fails to provide the same (or equivalent) facilities or services we provided, you may end your contract by giving them notice."
I won't be able to use other clubs that I wanted to as they have remained Virgin Actives and I will become a member of Nuffield Health, so this should be grounds to cancel my contract. I'll give them a call and let you know how I get on0 -

Nuffield actually have twice as many UK gyms as VA now post this transfer. Bar Salford Quays I believe all the VA clubs in the north west are transferring so you may find you actually have more choice. The full list is at the link below.
Bar a few outposts VA barely have any presence in the north now and have withdrawn entirely from Scotland. Not sure how long their Belfast or Welsh branches will last either. Seems they are focusing now on central London and their high end racquet clubs in the south as they focus expansion in south east Asia, South Africa and Australia.
I wonder if they will have any clubs outside central London at all in a few years.

Good luck from reports Nuffield seem like a decent gym - I like VA but it's customer relations leaves a lot to be desired.0
