As a first step, try discussing the matter with TPAS.

First of all, if you didnt pay in, they could ask for their money back. As it was supposed to be matched.

But as you say it was their mistake. But to ask them to pay in your contributions would be unfair. As it was you who didnt notice.

So ask to start yours now.

I would ask for a full statement of your fund not just go on what the auditor has said plus you should get a statement yearly and as its been two years you should have noticed this earlier on mine it clearly states what i have contributed and what my employer has contributed you can always put more in each month to catch up i presume.

  • That's fine, lay into me for someone else's initial mistake, cheers! If we all knew everything about personal finance, we wouldn't need to be here, eh?

It turns out the scheme isn't matched and they automatically put in their standard percentage amount. I had forgotten this as it was two years ago. Unlikely they'll clear out the fund and start again as my relationship with them is OK and it was their mistake.

Yes but ultimately it will be you who will lose out as your pension benefits upon retirement will be lower than anticipated.

as a matter of interest what percentage do you or should have paid and what percentage do they pay mine is 5% from both. Im sure you will be able to pay more than 5% if possible to try and catch up so to speak but i cant see your employer will be interested in paying anymore than they are obliged to. I would check as i said your statement to make sure that the company have paid into what they should have it all sopunds abit iffy to me to be honest how many are in the scheme?
