Winter eyewear for cyclists?

Evening all

Routes I tend to cycle have some roads with loose surfaces that throws up pebbles. In the summer I can just wear sunglasses, but I need some king of eye protection in winter. Can anybody suggest any shops or websites that have good value winter wear?

you can get cycling glasses but they tend to be a little bit more expensive

if it was me i would be calling in at a screwfix and picking up a pair of industrial safety glasses for £3.00-£5.00

a few years ago industrial safety glasses were functional but not in anyway stylish, but things have changed and some of the 3M, Stanley, Bole or dewalt wraparound glasses are both functional and reasonably stylish and will suit your needs perfectly

by going down this route it will be around a third of the cost of a pair of glasses from a bike shop

Yes, they look pretty cool actually.

I like the look and price of Bolle, half tempted to buy a pair from the auction website, but I guess I had better try some on by going into the shop. Especially as there is one not too far from me. Would the yellow tinted ones work well for both summer and winter? or would I be better of with a clear pair for winter? Not ridden in the dark yet.

Aldi often do cycling gear.

A pair of glasses with no end of changeable lenses, depending on the weather, for less than a fiver.

Other than that, try ebay for a cheap pair of cyclng glasses with clear plastic lenses which will protect your eyes...no need to spend more than a few quid.

Poundland do a pair of reading glasses with hardly any magnification ! They cost....a quid
I m a former spectacle wearer for nearly all of my life and I have had cataract implants meaning I can see great with no glasses and I think I will take the risk because I love cycling, especially in the rain, with no specs on .The novelty has nt worn off in five years now.

Most bike glasses with interchangeable lenses have three sets - clear, yellow and dark. The yellow lenses do cut the light quite a bit, so not ideal for night time. However, they are excellent in poor light conditions (mist, drizzle etc) as they really do increase contrast and make things clearer to see. An added advantage is that they make everything yellow-tinted, which reminds you of sunshine and cheers you up.


Clear for darkness
Yellow for mist and rain
Dark for sunshine.


Incidentally, I love riding after dark. Just make sure you have good lights. Riding down a country lane in the pitch blackness with just the beam of a good headlight is a real pleasure.

Been using some Adidas Evil Eye's for the past 3 years and am very happy with them. Very modular glasses and the lens are in a different universe quality wise from the cheap ones and interchangeable.
