Please help notice period

hi all
for some reason I cant post in the correct thread,
can someone please help me.
I got myself a new job and handed my 4 weeks notice period to my boss on Tuesday so I would leave on Tuesday 23rd august.
I had a meeting with them today and they said rather I finish on the Tuesday they would like me to finish on the Friday 19th august as its the end of the week.
as my contract stated I gave them 4 weeks notice do they still have to pay me until the Tuesday? or can they just pay me minus 2 days money.
also I told my new bosses I couldn't start on the monday as I had to give my old boss 4 weeks notice so they put my start day forward to Wednesday.
many thanks
Ian

Any holiday owing?
I would think that they have to give you the minimum notice required by law or in your contract. So if you giving them notice has prompted them to give you notice, they have to (a) make sure they have followed proper procedures and (b) comply with legislation and your contract.
Maybe post on the employment board.
No harm in ringing the new bosses and tell them you are now available to start on Monday.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. How long have you worked for this company? Just curious as to why you didn't raise the "pay" question with them during this meeting.
It does make sense for you to finish at the end of the week. Can you not agree to this and then start with your new employer on the Monday?
Ultimately, what your employer can and cannot do depends on your employment contract so it's impossible to advise without that.0 -
hi
many thanks for the reply
I have worked for them for 2 years and 8 months, full time 2 years 1 week, my contract says they have to give me 4 weeks notice and I have to give 4 weeks notice.
it does say in the contract they can use my holidays to cover my notice period, as I only have 1.5 days left accrued this still leaves 1/2 day. covering the Monday and Tuesday.
I only received the new contract Monday night so I handed the notice in on Tuesday this is why it wasn't done on the Friday as I had to wait for the new contract before resigning.
I didn't say anything at the meeting as I don't know about these things and thus am asking on here.0 -

Well in that case they would need to pay you for the half day they would owe you.
My last employer had to pay my holiday pay when I left in addition to my notice rather than instead of. It all depends on the contract as there isn't a fixed answer. Presumably you're still working there so ask the HR team for a definitive answer.0
