O/S Daily Thursday 28 July 2016

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Now light, light cloud so no sun as yet but we seem to be having a cloudy start to the day then the skies clear and we get quite a bright sunny day, hopefully that's what we'll get today!

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit. Washing in the machine, will put that out once it's finished. I'll keep going with the washing until there's nothing left, none got done yesterday as the weather was so awful in the morning when I left.

Dinner last night was roast chicken pieces, roasted potatoes, LO cauli/broc cheese, LO yorkshires, carrots, broccoli, and gravy. Not sure about tonight but will find something hoping not to spend any money, just make something from what I have in stores/fridge/freezer.

Work yesterday was slow in the morning then busier in the afternoon, I'm working on Saturday also.

I have a "to do" list today - so will crack on with getting chores done, I'll be heading to the bank/building society shortly, then I need to come home and crack on.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning everyone.

    Thanks for the thread nmlc

Looks bright out today. Yesterday was dry all day so I got some washing out and dry for the first time in weeks.

Last night I watched Eat Well for Less, never seen it before. I was just appalled at the shopping spree at the start. Of course at the end things had turned around dramatically. There's a couple recipes I may try too.

A large Lake*and brochure came in the post yesterday which meant I spent far too long drooling my way through it. After I'd done that I decided the only thing I could realistically find useful is a spiralizer but would probably leave it in the back of the cupboard after two uses.

Today I've got 'work' and then a little shopping to do. Earlier this week I made butternut squash soup and have really enjoyed it each lunch time so think I'll make it again. I've never really enjoyed soups until I had a different one every day on Orkney. I'll also try a cauliflower and Brie one too if I feel brave.

I hope everyone has a lovely Thursday.
  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC for starting us off. Not a bad start here but apparently showers are forecast for later. I thought it was a hot and humid night and slept quite fitfully. JACKIE I hope today is a better day all round for your lovely family, they had more than enough grief all round yesterday. (I've suffered a dry socket too more than once so wouldn't wish that on anybody. In fact I got paranoid about having a tooth out)

Well DD and BF and the 3 DGDs all got back safely yesterday afternoon from their respective holidays and a good time was had by all. DD fancied a curry and treat us all to an early evening meal at the Balti House. I was absolutely stuffed and, even though I am not a massive curry fan, I really enjoyed my selection and would definitely book there again. A really nice place too.

We have the dentist for a check up this morning and then the weekly food shop. Not such a big list today thankfully. Then we are back to childminding after a week's reprieve! The 3 DGDs are here for tea after swimming club. Usual sleepover and here all day tomorrow whilst DD goes to work. Fingers crossed for decent weather so we can get out and about somewhere!

Have a good day if you can and (((HUGS))) where wanted. CSARINA what a nightmare for your DH stuck on a trolley all that time, but at least he has a diagnosis now. Take care all xx

Morning nmlc and all who follow,

Earlier post from me as I'm off to the gym (first time this week) and then into the charity office 9-1. They are very good and allow me to work my 4 hours earlier over the school holidays as we deal with London schools and they are not now in.

Have put out the rubbish and fed our dog. Dinner last night was Aldi caramelised onion sausages and mash with carrots and courgettes. All eaten and enjoyed. Tonight I will do SW carbonara so need to pick up some fromage frais on the way home from work.

Popped down to see my mum yesterday and picked up a cross stitch I had had framed. Really pleased with it and it will go up once DH is back from camp. Also cleared the ironing pile yay!

Will wash the children's bedding later - both ds1 and DD still asleep, but will have them strip and remake their beds whilst I'm out. That's the plan anyway :)

JackieO - your poor DD and her tooth - glad it's all sorted and she's not in too much pain today.

    Have a good day all

Oh no JackieO I'm so sorry to hear about Ollie :( I hope Lexi will be OK xx
Your daughter sounds like me when it comes to dental work, for the same reason too. Nightmare extraction and I swore I'd never visit a dentist again, but you forget just how bad dental pain can be. Tell her I'm impressed with her! x

The doors have been hung, there was a huge row about the door keeps! He then started criticising other things we've chosen to buy/do in the house over the past couple of years. I pointed out that I own the house, it's my choice and is nothing to do with you. Then told him to stop being so arrogant. If he carries on, when he gets his own house I'll be there telling him what to buy, where to buy it from, what colour it should be, how to arrange it – then I'll criticise it anyway. And it's not an empty threat, I fully intend to drive him nuts.

Scampi has been a nightmare on walks for the past few days. My patience with his silly tantrums ran out yesterday so I'm not taking him out today. His mate Milo is coming round this morning, so he can burn off his energy in the garden.

I ordered just over £100 worth of dog supplies, it'll keep us going for ages! It all turned up yesterday and I have nowhere to store it all, it's going to take me all afternoon to rearrange things so I can make enough space in the tall cupboard :D

    Morning all,

Nice day here again, yesterday was so busy at work we did not stop for a moment, I hops today will be a bit quieter.

Camelot, Evie finally went out for her first long walk since the op yesterday, she loved it and came back knackered, this was after her chewing a hole in the front and back of OH's pants :rotfl:she was so desperate to get out she was causing havoc !

Did not go to mums last night as she was not well, we are going tonight instead, I think she is doing a roast chicken, last night we had a spaghetti thing which was made with all the left over bits in the fridge, olives, peppers, mushrooms, loads of odd bits of cheese and some chilli pesto it was really tasty.

Jackie I am so sorry to hear about Ollie, what a lovely life he had with you all though, hugs to you all xx

    Have good days all xx

Morning all, dry but overcast here.

I have a later start today and am glad of it as will be working late. I have a big meeting this morning, oh happiness and joy, at least not in the main office but in a building where the windows open.

I made a batch of chocolate concrete last night, cut up this morning. This is after intensive wheedling from a colleague but he is right, it is a long time since I made it for him. One container for him and one for my little family. I don't like it, probably just as well. It seems to be a school staple but I'd never heard of it and we didn't have it at my school. I have to keep it hidden through the morning, otherwise he won't get any. I didn't have time for a second batch for the meeting.

My OH has just got up, this is unusual as he mostly stays in bed until I ask him to get up and run me to the bus stop.

    I need more tea.

Sorry to hear about JackieO's family's dog and about tooth woes. It is so sad to lose a pet.

Hope people have a good day.

    Morning all
The fish have been fed, hubby and I have a cuppa, he doesn't start work until 12:30 today, so he will be around this morning. I want him to look in the shed for any tiles we have as there are a couple missing that I want to replace.
JackieO, your DD has my sympathy, I've have to have bits of bone chipped away to get a tooth out and I've had a dry socket.
I'm going out with my DD's and 4 of the older children this evening, but I might pop over this afternoon to see DD1. There are things I need to discuss with her without the other DD hearing, as some subjects trigger her problems.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Good morning all,

Yesterday after work I went to the gym and really enjoyed it, for sure going to get back into it and go more regularly. Afterwards the GF and I ran some errands and an early night. Boring.

Today should be a night with my mates I recon (after the gym). Again nothing too much to report. Got paid today so I'll do my budgeting.

    Jackie - Sending you hugs!
AoD - whats chocolate concrete? Sounds amazing though haha.

    Morning everyone,

    Thanks for the thread nmlc.

Dry and sunny here at momint, just waiting on the gardening men to turn up and finish off our hedge. They arrived in the rain yesterday morning and got most of it done.

We were pretty much out all day, firstly into town to visit the library, managed to come home with just four books which is pretty restrained for me. Then to HB for a few bits, I wanted some fine cord to replace the one in my Roman blind that covers the landing window. Went to take it down last weekend for cleaning and the cord snapped :( think will need to visit a decent Haberdashery shop as couldn't find anything to suit.
OH treated me out to lunch which was yum, had prawn and crab gratin followed by raspberry roulade so was pretty much stuffed for rest of day.
Today will catch up on chores this morning and then off for a much needed haircut this afternoon.

Have a good day everyone, take care folks x

Morning JackieO, hope your lovely family are as OK as they can be. Losing a pet is so terribly painful.

Just cycled along the prom, thinking I must be getting better as it didn't seem too much of an effort , then realised the wind was with me, struggled a bit in the way back. I checked the flag around th corner too!

Friends coming for coffee and cake this morning whilst DH fishing, otherwise our wittering will drive him bonkers!

    Take care everyone
