Cheapest way to get an 0871 number? For cold callers :)

Anyone know a cheap way of setting up a 0871 number, so that I can make some cash from the annoyance lol?

There's an interesting article here about someone who did that!

Doesn't say how, but doing a search brings up several companies that offer you such numbers.
    This one for example: http://0871.uk2numbers.co.uk/0871-Numbers.cfm?page=0871rebate
pays 6p a minute and only costs 9.95 to set up.

    Interesting idea! Thanks :D

That's where I got the idea from lol!

A few suppliers seem to charge more for redirecting to a mobile than they pay for calls received!

The payout for incoming calls to an 087 number with a 13p per minute Service Charge can be as high as 8.5p per minute when forwarding to a landline.

The non-geographic provider has to pay a termination fee to the call recipient's landline or mobile provider. For calls terminating on a UK landline number this can be up to 0.21p per minute. For calls terminating on a UK mobile number this can be up to 0.49p per minute.

There is no excuse for charging much more to forward calls to a mobile than to a landline. Most non-geographic providers charge a ridiculous amount to forward calls to a mobile number but some will back off when you demonstrate that you know what you are talking about.

If instead of an 0871 number you get an 0870 number, people with an inclusive allowance of calls to 0870 numbers can call it at no charge but you still get paid.

Usage of a number with a Service Charge of more than 7p per minute means it will be subject to regulation by PhonepayPlus. Breaching the regulations detailed in the (14th edition) Code of Practice can be very costly. There are also Ofcom regulations on declaring the call cost to consider.
