I know its a little early and we still arnt sure about whats going to happing with BREXIT.
I'm a time served joiner and going back into trade around xmas time after 7 years in the Army. Great timing eh?
Does anyone know what will happen to the jobs in the construction trade. The feeling among the lads I used to work with is mixed, some say that trade personel will be better off ecentually as there is already a skills shortage and 12% foreign workers made up the work force.
Other lads say there is going to be a 'recession'.
I bloody hate that word!!
Also we plan to buy our first home just after xmas.
Can anyone see the house price's dropping by then IF, They are even likely to fall at all?
From a vain point of view I was looking at getting a saving on a nice house and a good start really onto the ladder.
Thanks in advance!

In a word: No. No body knows whats round the corner.
However, I can offer my experiences as something to think about. I run a property maintenance company. We fit kitchens, bathrooms, do insurance work and cover all aspects of property maintenance in the home. From Feb to Mid June I was relatively quiet, booking about a month ahead, which is unusual for me. (Normally booking ahead 2 months or more). Since 23 June I and all of the guys I network with are manic. I am now booking through to January. I'm getting about 2 or 3 calls per day from people wanting work done. I tell people that I can't offer dates for 6 mobths and it isn't putting them off.
The biggest problem I have is actually getting decent sub-contractors. There are quote a few guys available, but with exceptionally poor customer care skills, poor time keeping, unmotivated etc. I'm not interested in them!!
My feeling is that there was a lot of uncertainty around the EU refurendum. Now we know the outcome, have a new PM and a realisation that the world is not imploding, people are now spending on home improvements etc.
If you have good trade skills, plus the transferable skills such as time management, inter -personal skills, customer care skills etc, there will always be work around.
Out of interest where will you be based when you leave the Army?Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -
Hi thanks for your reply!
Yeah, I am pleased that things are going really well for you recently. It's all 'if's and buts' at the moment not only with this Brexit but my future.
I'm sure when the time comes I will be fine. I have people skills and very motivated and not scared of long hours. When I come out, I hope to be returning to the Newcastle area.
