Love or money?

  • A quote I remember that someone said to me when I was growing up.

When looking for a job, find a job I enjoy doing so much that I'd be happy to do it without getting paid.

Then, do the job so well, that other people choose to pay you for what you've done!

(I've recently stepped down in salary, in order to do a job I've always wanted to do. It is a big gamble, but after several years in an increasingly repetitive and dull career environment, sometimes a pay cut is worth it - if it leads to a happier career)
Having fun trying to save money without going over the top and living on budget food all the time...
  • Job, every time. When I started my last job, I absolutely loved it, it was a growing company and quite a few of us started at the same time. We were all the same, loved watching & being involved in the growth, didn't mind the hours, had a blast. 5 years later, hated it with a passion, we had been taken over and rightly or wrongly, we didn't like the rigid 9-5:30 ethic of those who joined us, maybe we (the old company) were the fools. Was glad to be made redundant.

Temped for 6 months, hated not feeling part of a team (I know, only in there to do a job, but I am a human being, not to be ignored at my desk). Started this job 9 years ago, took about £10k drop in salary, loss of benefits, fewer holidays, but I love it, no stress, if it were possible, I could actually do all my work in 3 days a week, but that is not really possible. My salary is near enough what I earned in my last job now & have a very thoughtful employer. Let's face it, how many would have an employer give you a Longine watch for a significant birthday? And no, there is no BIK as the company did not pay for it!

    Money isn't everything :)
A smile costs little but creates much :)
