The rise of online shopping has led to the widespread phenomenon of having to wait in for parcels to be delivered, and often finding a "we missed you" card in the letter box, sometimes even when you stayed in!

The card left by the courier firm usually mentions a premium rate (084, 087 or 09)* number to call to re-arrange delivery.

Don't call the premium rate number, call the vendor. It is the vendor's responsibility to chase up delivery of your goods at their expense. And, under Regulation 41 of the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, the vendor must have an 01, 02, 03 or 080 number for after-sales enquiries such as this.

*Exceptions are FedEx, Royal Mail (consumer) and UPS who now offer an 0345 number. This is charged the same as whatever you already pay for calls to 01 and 02 numbers.
