Providing DOB

Hello
I have an Overdraft Debt with Barclays, it was being dealt with by DM but has now passed to Wescot only they don't know my DOB so won't speak to me. They have contacted Barclays who don't appear to have my DOB either as I have been asked by Wescot to send this to Barclays but I have no idea where to send it! Does this sound a bit odd?
I have spoken to Step change who can't help and told me to speak to Money Advice service, who told me they couldn't help to speak to step change!

Hi bec2012,
It does sound odd, but not surprising coming from a large organisation that processes millions of bites of data every day.
Best advice is never to speak to any DCA on the phone, conduct your business in writing or by email only.
As soon as they write to you, or if they have already, you just set up a payment plan from there website.
You do not need to speak to anyone, so its a bit of a non issue really.
If they cant continue collection due to data protection issues, then Wescot will just pass the account back to Barclays, who will then give it to another DCA and the dance continues.
If you want to correct the issue, you simply send your name, address, account details, and your DOB to the data controller at Barclays, the address will be there generic one, just add for the attention of compliance officer/data controller, and include a brief explanation with your letter.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. It does sound very strange as you should be able to confirm who you are with other questions not just your DOB
So is this part of your DMP, surely, Step Change should be able to deal with them as they are your representative. I would speak to Step Change again, maybe you just got someone who was new.
Thinking out loud...you could send a letter (with a printed signature) confirming your DOB to Westcot.
I would keep on making your payments so they cannot say you are not making payments. Even though the mean side of me would not pay anything and see how long before they come chasing for the money. They will speak to you then.
From what I remember when a new debt company took over they just took over payments and I did not need to confirm anything.
Hopefully others may be able to give you more concrete advice.
