Postal competition entries

How do we know when there are phone in competitions there are also an address to enter free by post that these entries are actually added and how are they added...for example good morning Britain has a phone number which is quite pricey but there is an address to enter by post for free you just pay the cost of a stamp...how does this work I wonder....I cannot find any info on this?

I'd say the fact there have been winners via postcard entry, albeit not many, is pretty indicative that they are being included.
