Think I will try and get new account set up as quickly as possible and pay anything I can into it to try and cover all household costs. Have been accepted for a basic account so just need to send of ID. Would be nice to get this all done before our break. Thank you Sourcrates

Hi. I'd just say don't over think it. This will be a period of transition. Something's might go into the wrong account, you might end up paying direct debits out of an overdraft etc. It's better if you can set yourself up straight but it will all come out in the wash.

    Hi kezzb

I’m sure once your DMP is up and running your debts will seem a lot less stressful. I agree with Df that you shouldn’t worry too much about where your payments come from. While your bank account is being changed over it’s possible that some payments may come out of an account you didn’t intend, but this sort of thing happens all of the time and creditors are used to it.

Welcome aboard and a great big well done for getting the hard bit out of the way! It's probably still worth posting your SOA here at some stage as it's a great way of picking up (or having gently picked up!) where savings can be made which may go to making your and your son's quality of life that bit better while you're sorting things out.

Thank you all so much. Just wish I had got in touch with Step Change earlier. Ive been trying to shuffle the cards around for a couple of years now. I haven't made any new purchases on them for about 2 years. A lot of my overdraft debt is from bank charges. I never knew I had other options. I can see light at the end of the tunnel now. Had my first really good nights sleep in ages last night :)

That's brilliant to hear - so many people say exactly the same thing though - actually facing it is by far the hardest bit - there's almost an excitement about starting to feel you can make a impact and take control.

Don't waste time regretting not doing things sooner though - you've done it now, that's the main thing. :T
