Balance sent to debt recovery

Unsure if this is the wrong forum, sorry if it is.

Received a debt recovery letter today for £43.95 for an unpaid gym sub that was due on the 15th (for £24.95).

Not had any sort of notification this was due, having accidently cancelled the wrong direct debit while having a clear out (had 2 for same place).

I've checked the contract which does say they'll pursue fees, no mention of late fee or anything. Seems a little prompt/excessive to me?.

Thanks.

    Hi hudashley

I would suggest you simply contact them advising that the direct debit was cancelled in error - you'll presumably be able if required that there were two DDs in place for the same gym. Ask them to waive the extra costs as a gesture of goodwill - if they are hoping to retain your custom, then one would hope they'd be prepared to show some leeway on this.

Does seem a tad harsh, thing is these companies have neither the staff nor the desire, or the time, to chase down bad debt, which is what yours has essentially become.

Instead they pass your account to there preferred bottom feeder Debt collection agency, who, because the collection amounts are quite low, add there own fee, to make it worth there while.

Good news is you can ignore jonnie debt collector completely, there "fee" is unenforceable, as they are only acting for there client, they cant do a thing to you, and the debt will not show on your credit report.

Sort something out with the gym unless they've peed you off soo much, then id tell em to stick it !!
