Can I freeze roast beef

I cooked a huge joint of beef yesterday, had it for dinner yesterday and today, but still have a huge lump left, I would like to make it into a curry, but will not have time to do it till next week, so is it ok to freeze it ?

Thanks

Yes it's fine to freeze but cut it up first into your curry size pieces that you need. Just helps it to defrost quicker and easier.

if you are doing a tomato based curry chop it up and freeze it in tomato juice with a teaspoon of the spices you will use maybe with a teaspoon of sugar if appropriate to your recipe you will get a much deeper flavour and more tender meat

I always buy the Sainsbury's beef when its on at half price and freeze until wanted as its seems to tenderise the meat. After its cooked on the day we want a roast I slice and freeze the rest in 2 people portions size in gravy. Makes the next few roast beef dinners quick and easy.

  • I have successfully frozen most roasted meats - sometimes I leave them in on big (but mealsized) lump, sometimes cut in cubes, often I slice them thinly (easier to to when it is cold) and then layer them with squares of greaseproof paper and freeze in a ziplock type bag - that way when I need a few slices of beef I can just remove what I need and leave the rest in the freeze. The greaseproof makes it easy to just remove a few slices at a time
  • Hi there, I would also like some advice please....there will be a lot of left over turkey/beef and boiled bacon left today...I am wondering if I can add vegetables/gravy etc. make stews out of them all and freeze them? for several dinners:question:....thank you

Gravy freezes just fine and lasts forever

You may get ice crystals develop in it which will make it thinner when defrosted but won't effect the taste
