Amazon Returns - Using Return To Sender?

Options
Hi - hope I posted this in the right area, there are lots to pick from.

I ordered a DVD from Amazon as a present (£10), but it turns out someone else had the same idea as they've got the same thing.

I ordered mine online so I offered to return it as I know you can using online selling laws, but the only options are either £4 or £6 return postage, which is about half the cost of the product.

As I haven't opened the package, could I just put it in a postbox as return to sender? Or put the parcel in to a bag and post it back myself to the return address?

AFAIK Amazon offer free returns, I could be wrong but that's been my experience of returning things to them. I wouldn't risk the "return to sender" thing as it's not incurred, you have no proof of postage and things can take 30 days to end up back with the retailer if you are lucky. By that point Amazon may decide you've not returned it in a timely manner and refuse a refund.
