This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

    Good morning everyone.

Cool and damp in Kirkwall with the sound of high winds over the sea.

After the pleasures of the week today I'm flying back to Glasgow and Mum's house. She'll want to know every last detail of every single thing tonight so it'll be lovely to relive it all for her.

Yesterday, with the relatively recent Napoleonic structures was outstanding. A great end to a fabulous week. I celebrated with some Tia Maria over my Orkney ice cream!

I hope everyone has a peaceful Saturday.

Good morning, the sun was shining a little while ago but has been covered by clouds now.

I don't have too many specific jobs today, so am going to take it easy as I'm heading into a period of huge activity at work. I was going to write frantic but that gives the impression of unplanned panic and it isn't, just various things and planned events coming to fruition.

OH will be shopping this morning and he cooks on Saturday evenings, usually a range of meaty dishes for himself and DS and a piece of salmon for me, or sometimes a different fish. I like fish but hate cooking it.

We STILL can't open the back door.

First terrible things in France and now all sorts going on in Turkey.

    Morning all

Gers your trip sounds wonderful, it's been great to read about all the places you've been.

Hubby is still in bed, he worked a12 hour split shift yesterday to cover holiday, so I'll take him up a cuppa and leave him to sleep, DGD is also asleep but I expect she'll be up before long.

I have washing on the line and another load in the machine, the DW has been unloaded.

I may start filling in the bumpy wall in the bathroom today, or just do ordinary housework, I'm not sure yet.

    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

  • Morning folks. A drab start here but there is hope on the horizon as our weather girl said warmer weather is on it's way after the w/e! DD and DGDs went to the caravan after school yesterday and we are taking over Sunday teatime so just hope this is true!

After the horrors of Nice goodness knows what is going to happen in Turkey after yesterday's events. We've had many, many holidays there in the past (before tourism really took hold) and always felt safe enough amongst the lovely, friendly people, But I really wouldn't want to go now. Nowhere is safe these days.

No plans for today but in the back of my mind is the thought that I should clean the oven and might try out my new steam cleaner on it.

We got our new specs collected yesterday. Mr TA is pleased with his but it's the first varifocals he's had and is finding them a bit strange till he gets used to them! I wonder how long it will be before he sits on them - this has happened to numerous pairs of reading glasses!

Have a nice day all (((HUGS))) where wanted. JACKIE hope this weekend goes to plan. GERS safe journey home. Take care folks xx

    Morning All

Dry this morning but not sure if it will stay that way, the rain yesterday was relentless, a shock after the beautiful day on Thursday.

Washing on the line, DW emptied and the tea/coffee cupboard has been sorted. I bought storage jars from the blue and yellow shed yesterday to keep all the various tea bags fresh and get rid of all the little boxes.

DD and bf arrived in Belfast, hope they have a good weekend. DS2 and his gf are off to Spain today.

Gers - Safe travels, it's a bit blowy out there for a little plane!

Not much planned for today, the living room has been re-arranged to accommodate my friend's budgie - I'm looking after it while they are away on holiday, I think it arrives today (hope it comes with a blanket so I can cover it up as it gets quite noisy!).

Hope you all have a good weekend. Take care. XX

    Morning everyone,

Thanks for the thread Gers. Safe journey back, I for one have looked up Orkney's tourist board lol!

So awful watching the news in France yesterday and then the troubles in Turkey. Headlines just now we're saying the coup has been crushed but who knows? The French students we have at the church this week were very quiet yesterday. They are from Brittany region but obviously very shaken up by the tragedy in Nice.

DD has just left with DH on her practise DOfE weekend. She was meant to go to a different campsite three weekends ago, but the co-ordinater pulled her group from the trip at the last minute (Thursday evening) after we had bought food and she had packed. I'm all for supporting teachers in their work and particularly when they do additional duties like DOfE but this was totally ridiculous. The teacher hadn't marked their route maps which they had handed in the previous week, and she said they weren't up to scratch. Anyway, a new campsite with new maps, and she's off. The weekend looks warm so that's good.

I need to take DS1 to work for 10am - he will drive with his L plates. I'm off to London this evening with girlfriends. We have a voucher for dinner and Ice bar experience - still £45 and that doesn't include drinks! I have a little money put by for this, hoping to come back with change!

Need to tackle the washing this morning and defrost some steak mince as DH is cooking spag Bol for him and the boys later

Hope you all have a great day

    Morning everyone,

Dry and reasonably bright here, it's due to be warm but humid.

Managed to catch up on my sleep last night so feel much better. Didn't really do much apart from washing and pottering chores yesterday so will need to dust etc today also change the bed.
TA, did get my new steam cleaner out of the box in the week to do the wooden floors and was pleased with the results. Rosie dog has an orthopaedic bed which has a few marks on it so am going to try the handheld part on that.
Other than that no much planned, will go and see my lovely boy later for some horsey cuddles, tea will be something out of the freezer.
Gers, your holiday sounds wonderful and has certainly made me want to visit.

Have a good day everyone, take care folks x

Having a browse on here and waiting to hear if the two dds who are staying over are moving around yet.

They fancy a posh breakfast of avocado and scrambled eggs and I am happy with just the eggs or an omelette. I found a recipe for home made houmus and salt and pepper chicken which is diet friendly so will make that for lunch with a salad. Later tonight I want to make a chcken and coconut curry for us.

Three portions of stew and three portions of lasagne have been frozen. I need to do a quick tidy round and get rid of the sand and grit tracked in from the garden work.

DDs have been naging me to sort out the clean laundry etc so will do that later.

    Gers

    Your holiday sounds amazing :j

    Hugs to all.

Morning ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one.

It's very dull here this morning, quite misty too, I hope it's going to clear and we get a nice warm day.

Oh is going to play with the new mower this morning and cut the front grass, it's grown really quickly. Might lower the cutter and give it a short back and sides!!

    No plans for the day.

Heard from the council yesterday, Transco are coming to see about running the gas in, then we will get a visit from the heating people. The plans for the wet room have been passed through so we will get a visit from the installers for that, they have given us an 8 - 10 week time slot. So hopefully we will not have to be fiddling to get the right settings on the heating this winter.

Still reeling from yesterday's news about the attack in Nice. It appears that some tourists were among the victims. Not surprising really, it's a popular holiday destination.

OH tells me the coup in Turkey has been put down. I need to have a look at the paper.

Time to get my body out of bed and start the day.

    Morning all,

Beautiful day here with the sun shining already, got a wash on the line and another in the wm.

Evie is up and has had her breakfast and medicine, she can go out for a 10 minute lead walk tomorrow if we can stop her jumping, she normally repeatedly jumps up at the person walking her in excitement until we get over the fields and then we let her off.

Tonight we are all off to a local 'festival' which is in the middle of nowhere in the most beautiful setting local bands play and then the 'big' band come on its 'rumours of Fleetwood mac' tonight then more bands and a disco, its a great evening where you take your own booze and a picnic and sit with your friends and dance the night away, I look forward to it every year, there is a big group of us going tonight.

So we need to go and get picnic stuff I think some chicken which I will marinade and some salad bits and bread and butter and various nibbly bits, DD's young man is here (and is lovely) so they can come to the shop and get their booze.

Still feeling for the people of Nice, we have been there many times and have walked down that very road, its tragic xx

    Have good days all xx
