SKY debt from 2011

SKY have sold a debt they insist I had with them in 2011,Vanquish bank have bought the debt and are demanding £59.

Yes its a small amount but I firmly believe it was paid end of 2011...Sky state it wasn't,and Vanquish when asked for proof of the debt insisted they don't need to prove anything...it's down to me to prove I don't owe it.

The argument with Vanquish ended up in a complete nonsense...basically told them to foxtrot Oscar and that I would formally write and put debt into dispute, the pillock from Vanquish (Manager no less) told me that wasn't possible and collectors would call for debt.

As the debt is from 2011 July time...obviously no idea what account I would have used to pay it as have had several accounts over the last few years and closed most or Transferred to other bank.

So other than sending a letter of dispute..what action can I do or indeed what can they do.??

    Muppets arnt they.

The onus is on them to provide proof you owe the debt, you don't have to prove anything.

Stay off the phone to these people, time and again people say "I rung them up and they wouldn't listen".

Of course they won't listen, they want money off you !!!!
Doubt they'll pursue for long for £59, bit I'd still send the provit letter to them, and keep everything in writing from now on.

Yes fully agree about not phoning...but thought id just enquire over phone as was rather surprised.

Will put a letter of dispute in and see what they do next.

I'm damn sure SKY sold the debt previously...had a company chasing and I'm sure that was sky.

Odd seeing as ive had Virgin since 2006.
  • I think a letter to them, stating that you dispute the debt and have been a Virgin Customer since 2006, would be your next move.

Adding that if they continue to pester you with this frivolous demand, you will make a complaint to the FCA.

Thought id just give a quick update...

It seems that they want paying, after three phone calls in one day,the last call ive explained i dispute the debt and have put it in wrighting.

Also stated that the number they were calling on was my mobile and they were to take it off the sstem or id send a letter of harrassment,to which the call handler laughed and said "really (pause) well how we gonna contact you then"...ive explained you do it in wrighting if at all.

Then was told if i dont reply in 30 days they will just re-add my mobile and start phoning again...i was told i cant stop them.

However when i explained my Android phone uses Call recorder (free app) that records all my calls (brilliant free app..works great) i was told bt a very aggrivated person im not allowed to do that and all future calls cannot be recorded.

Hmmm i cant record calls on my phone when they contact me...after being told they cant contact me...ye gods cant make this stuff up.

So any templates for telephone harrasment available.
  • You are perfectly in your own right to record the calls for your own personal records.

If they don't provide consent it's difficult to then use in court against them.

I think it sounds like they have a weak case. You could ask them - or indeed Sky - to evidence how they asked for this debt to be repaid. Look at your credit history, was a mark made for a non-payment?

    Good luck!

Theres no Sky details on any credit report...:)

I did notify all of my late mothers creditors of her death..i think Sky have added me to her account when ive told them of her death (but thats in 2013).

When asked sky why they only chased the debt 5yrs after supposedly defualting...they said these things take time.

Really...its £59 so im assuming Vanquish payed maybe a pound or two,it must have costs more than the debt to chase it...bizare.:rotfl:

Ive asked for evidence, response was they dont need to prove the debt...i need to prove i dont owe the debt, really next time they phone i"ll upload the conversation to You tube as some of the nonsense they come out with is just amazing.

Everything they have told you there is complete and utter rubbish.

They MUST remove phone numbers when asked, it's a breach of data protection rules if they don't.

They must provide evidence of a debt when asked, another breech of the rules.
Sky debt/accounts don't appear on your credit file anyway.

They have absolutely no case whatsoever as they refuse to provide evidence of the debt, they would last all of 20 seconds in court !!!

Block there number on your phone and ignore the idiots.
