TSB preferences 'problem'

I wonder if anyone else has had this problem. I received an email to my personal email address (late yesterday but I opened it about an hour ago) telling me that I had a new message in my internet banking inbox and that it was important to view it.
When I logged in to internet banking the unread message was about last year's interest. I noticed that I was being asked to update my preferences to paperless and on line. I found this strange as I had never changed my preferences from paperless and on line at any time as this is a requirement to receive interest etc. I felt obliged to tick that I agreed to paperless and on line communications. I then logged out.
An email arrived in my personal email inbox almost immediately confirming that I had changed my preferences. I felt uneasy and telephoned TSB to find that they could not help as internet banking was closed until 7 am. The only option I had, if I felt uneasy, was to have my TSB accounts suspended. The person I spoke to said that TSB had not sent me any emails apart from the one in my TSB inbox and thought the emails I received to my personal email address may not be genuine.
TSB could not help me in any other way and suggested I ring at 7 am. There was no way of sending a secure message on line. I find this disconcerting. Has anyone else been asked to change/amend/update preferences to something they had not changed from at all?
Many thanks.

Don't worry TSB in common with Halifax, Lloyds and Bank of Scotland are always putting these 'reminders' to go paperless on screen whereupon you think, 'yes but I already have' clicking to go paperless when already paperless does result in an email saying you changed to paperless.
Its not very good policy by these banks as it is just a generic message that does not recognise those who have already opted for paperless:)
So I think there is no problem at all as regards your security.0 -
Thank you very much Yorkshire Pud - that's very reassuring. I did telephone shortly after 7 am and the lady I spoke to said the department dealing with internet and online etc. does not open until 8am and I should ring back then.
In the meantime I checked this forum again and saw your helpful reply which is very much appreciated.
UPDATE at 8.15 am. When I telephoned the lady said that they do send emails and she checked that everything was in order. Thank you again for your reply.
