Joy of Shredding !

If this is in the wrong place - please move - thanks
I've just spent a wonderful morning shredding nasty old financial papers. Having endured the annual misery known as The Accounts and sent them off, decided to reorganise all the files and chuck our anything more than 6 years old. Especially enjoyed shredding bank accounts from 1998, showing loans we have long since paid off and correspondence with a nasty builder who ripped us off 20 years ago. Really theraputic to remember - fleetingly - the bad feelings, and then shred them for ever !
I'm completely re-organising the study/spare room, starting with the files, and was dreading it - but I've enjoyed it so much. As a bonus, and quite by accident, discovered among my Ma's papers the full name of my great-grandmother, which I did not know before, so have updated the family tree.
Do you keep old greetings cards ? If so, for how long ?
