I wanna buy ...where? how much?

Options
I want to buy an item ( camera ) and was saving up to buy it new.

I've now seen it secondhand in one of those buy-sell-exchange stores that are common to many high streets. The price looked good to me, so I went away and did my research online, including Amazon and eBay.

The camera has 4 different models, introduced from June 2011 onwards, each with slight improvements on the previous model.

My question is: Does anyone here know how these second-hand stores determine their pricing? Is there scope for price negotiation?

The store is asking £130.

When the camera was first launched in 2011, the new price was £500. Like all technology, the price has come down over the years. They now cost £350 and Amazon has them for £250 new. I've found a new one on eBay for £201, but it is coming from Taiwan, so likely to be hit with import duty, as it is outside the EU. And is it a grey import? And what happens about the warranty if it goes faulty?

Can anyone give my some advice please?

Speak to the store , and tell them you are willing to pay £x - Start at around 2/3 , so. £90. You cannot lose anything by asking :)

Try it and see - they can only say no (but with luck will say yes).

With more detail on what it is you are buying may get better responses, especially about what to ask about the used kit.

What are used camera outlets selling it for?

mpbphotographic, London Camera Exchange are two to compare prices on.
