currently have a tourer in benone for the first time and discovered there is no tv reception. noticed a lot of others have sky dishes outside so presume these must work. bit lost on what i need to get and what is not really necessary.

You should be able to get a signal with a standard aerial. But you need to point it in Donegal direction, towards Moville. Lot of people have a Sky dish though as you get more channels and better quality picture. If you have sky at home they may "give" you a dish and standard box, depends how good you are at haggling. Sometimes they charge £40. Then you buy a card for the box from Sky for £20 (lifetime, one off payment) This allows you all basic channels, not sport or movies. I know all this as I used to have a mobile in Benone. Prices though are from a few years ago and may have changed. Also if you have sky at home you could just buy a dish and bring down your own box every time, lot of hassle thoughI started out with nothing......And still have most of it left:p0

Sky dish, around £25, an old sky box and a length of tv cable will get you your Free to Air programmes0

What are you trying to use? Presumably Freeview? Have you re-tuned for the Limavady transmitters?0

we basically left the daughter and her husband (we own the tourer but they are staying in it) so don't know what he has or has not tried. i just took it that if he couldn't get reception with a young persons knowledge of computers and electronics (which is way better than mine) then it couldn't be got. plus she gave away a perfectly good sky dish recently!! ok we will have a trial of your ideas, they had gone to maplin and bought a portable sky system type of thing but couldn't b
get it to work either.0 -
Sky dish and a freesat box will do you, without the need for sky cards and the like0
